In her attempt to understand fibromyalgia, Dr. Bernstein recognized that unresolved trauma causes neurological disruption of a person’s innate capacity to heal.  She enrolled in a three-year trauma recovery program, Somatic Experience®, a bodymind system, that trains the patient to expand their capacity to heal from trauma.

Dr. Bernstein has developed a patient education course, New Pathways Pain Reduction Program, to train the chronic pain patient in effective skills to increase resiliency when faced with pain and to reduce reactive responses that increase suffering.
Professional and Educational Background
Dr. Liz Bernstein completed her undergraduate training as a  pre-med student at U.C.L.A.  Seeking a  career that would combine human service with her love of nature and the health sciences, she transferred to Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, graduating in 1984.

After 10 years of practice, Dr. Bernstein wanted to broaden her scope of practice to treat disorders that elude conventional medicine.  She enrolled at Yosan University in Los Angeles and received her M.A. in Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1998.  Liz spent four months in China for post-graduate training; after returning from abroad, she moved to Bellingham in 1999 to live closer to nature in a community-based setting.

Dr. Bernstein’s professional activities include working at UCLA School of Medicine providing lecture and demonstrations of holistic health modalities as part of the innovative Doctoring Course.
